  1. Match report

After the (unnecessary) loss last weekend against NAC Breda, today it was time for Edwin de Wijs' team and newcomer Joonas Kolkka to grab three points again. This would have to happen against Fc Dordrecht who are lowly ranked with 3 points. Last weekend they lost 1-3 to Feyenoord. Not a bad result for a low-flyer.
Due to the rain we had to play on the artificial turf. Which was nice and fast today. But for some reason, PSV did not manage to play with a high tempo. Attacking was too slow, with many players lacking real sharpness today. Result of a test week? Or because Marcel Brands and Giorginio Wijnaldum (his little brother played for the opponent) were on the sidelines? This created a particularly flat match with (unfortunately) few chances and highlights.
In the first half, Joey Konings was close to scoring the opening goal after Jaëll Hattu went through nicely on the right and put the ball at the first post. However, Joey's header was not promoted to goal. Just before halftime, Joey was threatening again. This time with his strong left, producing a low shot that was well handled by the Dordrecht keeper.
After halftime, the same pattern of play remained: PSV the many ball possession without creating real chances. We were even lucky that after one minute the captain of Dordt did not have his sights set straight when he slid the ball past goalkeeper Mike van de Meulenhof. After first Lennerd Daneels tried his luck from distance (classy save with the fingertips of the Fc Dordrecht goalie), it was finally Matthias Verreth who broke the spell in the 45th minute. Jaëll Hattu, after a good run, had the opportunity to take a shot from the left from the edge of the 16-meter area. Via the goalkeeper the ball hit the post where Matthias reacted most alertly and shot the ball easily: 1-0.
This lead did not lead to better play by PSV. It played too much against itself as an opponent today. Still, just before time the lead was extended. The goal was a reverse copy of the first. This time Matthias shot at the far post after a strong action, and Jaëll was the first to kick the ball over the goal line, 2-0 which was the final score.
