Today, October 3, I was allowed to be a spectator at the game Reusel E-1 against our boys (PSV E-2).
The story beforehand was that this opponent would be a physically strong and good footballing team. At 11.30 PSV kicked off the match. Immediately our boys were able to create danger in front of the enemy goal with good teamwork and pressure. Already in the 2nd minute there was a fantastic action by Joop on the right on the goal line. He fooled his opponent and managed to play the ball across the ground in front of the opponent's goal. There Joey came running in and managed to pass the goalkeeper with a blazing shot, 1-0. Less than 7 minutes later it was Benjamin's turn. He rounded 3 opponents and ran straight at the goal and gave the goalkeeper the slip with a low hard shot into the bottom left corner, 2-0. We went ahead, because with such a start to the game it could be a big score. And would the story about this opponent have been a myth? Well nothing could be further from the truth. As the match progressed, the opponent also got better into their game and managed to create some danger in front of our goal. This was partly due to the fact that our switchover was a bit slow. We also struggled to capitalize on the chances we were given. We went into halftime with a 2-0 lead, which given the course of the match was justified. After halftime it was the same. And where other opponents often fail conditionally, this was not the case with Reusel. So it happened that immediately after halftime the opponent came through dangerously on the left and shot the ball past our goal, so we could breathe a sigh of relief. Then in the 35th minute a free kick on the right for PSV, after a foul by the opponent, at + 15m from the goal. Bryan in charge of this free kick, however, popped the ball against the underside of the crossbar after which it bounced back into the field. Immediately after this, Bryan had to leave the field with a painful knee after an unfortunate collision with an opponent. The game kept going up and down, and a few minutes before time a dangerous situation could arise in front of the PSV goal. But our closing post Pepijn was also able to clear this situation and managed to keep the zero for PSV. Then in the penultimate minute another hard shot by Koen at the Reusel goal. But even the Reusel goalkeeper was alert and was able to turn this shot away. Not long after this the referee whistled for the end of the match and the 3 points could be taken back to the Herdgang. With this result you remain unbeaten at the top of the ranking and you have put a possible fellow candidate for the championship behind.
