In the first ten minutes of the match, both teams were still probing. The first opportunities for PSV to score were after ten minutes. Two corners in quick succession created danger in front of the PEC goal, but no goal was scored. The first chance for the visitors, however, was taken immediately. In the 16th minute, unnecessary ball loss by PSV in the PEC half led to a quick counter that allowed PEC to score 0-1. A few minutes later PSV tried to do something back. After a nice attack the cross was just intercepted by the PEC goalkeeper. In the 25th minute the equalizer came. A deep ball from Martijn was shot by Milan van de Riet via the goalkeeper, 1-1. Just before halftime, PSV took the lead. Now it was Gioele who sent Milan away with a deep ball. Milan again came alone in front of the goalie and shot the 2-1. This was also the score at halftime.

PSV started the second half strongly and after three minutes the lead was extended further. A cross from Ruben was initially cleared by a PEC defender but in the rebound Dyon shot the 3-1. PSV was more aggressive and played the ball around faster. Yet PEC also had a few chances to score. A free kick from 20 meters went over the top of the crossbar and two minutes later a PEC shot hit the post. On the counterattack, Jesse sent Milan away who shot into the far corner to make it 4-1. PSV then continued to look for a goal but it was PEC who scored in the 57th minute. From a corner, a free PEC player was able to head in without interference, 4-2. In the final phase of the match both teams got chances although the best chances were for PEC. In the penultimate minute PEC went very close to scoring the tying goal, but the ball hit the post to make it 4-2.
