After weeks of preparations in which only positive results were achieved, the first league match was scheduled for today. Today's opponent was the German Alemannia Aachen.
From the first whistle it was immediately clear what coach Collin has been training for for a long time: quickly put the opponent under pressure and do not let them play. Because Aken was also on top of the game the game was going up and down. After some small chances for Beslan and Yorbe the first big chance was for Alemannia, luckily Jeffrey paid attention and took the ball 1 on 1 from the foot of the German striker. After 10 minutes, Thijs sent Yorbe away with a long ball, who appreciated these kind of chances, rounded the goalkeeper and slid the 1-0 in.
About eight minutes later it was equal again, the ball could not be cleared at the back and was shot in from 16 meters under the bar.
This was a sign for our boys to step up their game and play forward again, which resulted in a number of nice attacks. One of these attacks resulted in a corner kick three minutes before halftime. The German goalkeeper was unable to hold Beslan's tight cross and Sekou was quick to slide the ball in, 2-1.
Hold on to that lead until halftime you would say, but nothing could be further from the truth, out of nowhere it became 2-2 and they could not start the tea with a lead after all.
The beginning of the second half was mainly midfield and there were not many chances, until Mathijs got on his heels after 15 minutes after a dazzling action he set Quinn free in front of the goal who scored impeccably 3-2.
What followed was an exciting last part of the match in which again the game went up and down at a high pace. Because our defense did not budge, we did not give away many chances and because our boys were clearly the better footballers, the first points of the new season seemed to stay in Eindhoven. But with a small fear in the back of our minds that we would not go into the game in German, it was very nice that Yorbe brought the margin to two shortly before time; after a nice pass from Dani, Yorbe drove the ball into the net 4-2.
Deep into injury time it was even 5-2. After a fantastic cross from Quinn, Yorbe scored his third of the day. A great result and this gives a lot of hope for the rest of the season.
