  1. Match report

The last league game was already scheduled this weekend. How the season flew by!

Opponent this last match: VVV/Helmond Sport C1. Earlier this season in Stadion De Koel (now known as Seacon Stadion - De Koel) a big win was achieved, which with 1-4 was still "economical".

For PSV, this match was a means of gaining rhythm on the way to the cup final against Ajax on Saturday, May 17 (at De Herdgang, so come and watch!!!!).

The match was played on the new artificial turf at De Herdgang. And that was nice and fast. Especially since it was sprayed just before kickoff. PSV started eagerly and dictated the match from the first minute. After striker Cody Gakpo failed to convert a beautiful long pass from Armando Obispo into a goal in the 5th minute, it was a goal in the 11th minute. Left winger Yasin Aalillou rushed past his opponent. His cross on the right ended up with Amar Catiç, who did exactly the same to his opponent and passed the ball to Cody, who in turn served Yasin, who was pulled in. With the right, Yasin rounded off easily, putting the 1-0 on the scoreboard.

A minute later Cody was close to scoring the 2-0. But unfortunately this time he was unlucky in his finishing. However, it was a stay of execution. After fifteen minutes the 2-0 came after all. A cross from Lars Dickens was headed away, but ended up with Amar, who shot the ball calmly and easily into the far corner.

PSV continued to create chances and opportunities, where VVV sporadically appeared over the halfway line. It was therefore waiting for the Eindhoven team to further increase the score. And that happened in the 24th minute. Once again Lars was at the base of the attack when he spotted a fine running move by Justin Lonwijk and played it to him. Justin moved the play to the left where the free Yasin unleashed a fine cross that landed right on Cody's head. Cody was able to hit the target and made it 3-0.

After Armando saw a free kick from long range sail just wide, the score at halftime was 4-0. Cody scored his 2nd of the afternoon through a quick conversion. Jordan Teze won the game on their own half, and sent Amar into the depths at the right moment. Amar beat his opponent to the punch, was not selfish and passed the ball at the right moment to Cody, who easily slotted the ball in.

After halftime, PSV immediately had a great chance. Armando sensitively put the ball over the last man of VVV, putting the deep Robin Schoonbrood in position. Unfortunately, Robin shot the ball wide where a lob might have been a better choice. Missing this opportunity lob later proved to be the prelude to the 2nd half. PSV was the better team by far and strung together one chance after another. But in the final stages it was often sloppy or too frivolous. In addition, it was unlucky that Armando's header splattered on the crossbar and saw a goal disallowed.

In the 61st minute, the scoreboard finally got moving again. On the left Gaétan Bosiers sent the substitute Remco Evenpoel away. His hard cross was initially not promoted to goal by Cody. But from an awkward position he still scored the 5-0 via a short turn.

Five minutes before time Armando also scored. Halfway through his own half, he received the ball and steamed straight through the middle. No one from VVV stood in his way, allowing him to run through to the goal area and shoot the ball right into the corner: 6-0.

In injury time PSV got a penalty after Cody was brought down on the edge of the 16. Unfortunately Robin also saw his effort hit the crossbar.

PSV won by a large margin today. And gained confidence towards the cup final on May 17 against Ajax. In the league it finished in 3rd place. With 17 goals, Cody Gakpo became top scorer. Followed by Leandro Fernandes with 12 goals.
