PSV started the match weakly and within minutes were down 0-2. Halfway through the first half, PSV recovered and made it a game again. In the second half, PSV dominated and had plenty of chances. In the end, PSV had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Within two minutes, the visitors took the lead. A cross from a Vitesse player was shot into the goal with a nice curve ball, 0-1. Before PSV had recovered from its shock, Vitesse scored again. This time a Vitesse attack was shot in from close range, 0-2. Vitesse continued unabated and put PSV under pressure. PSV still had no answer to the visitors' play and tried to limit the damage. Vitesse had several opportunities to put the game away for good, but they were not taken. After about twenty minutes, PSV got into the game better and created some good opportunities. In the 27th minute, Iggy Houben was close to a goal, but the Vitesse goalie turned the shot away. Four minutes later, a cross by Ruben van Bommel was shot just over. In the ^32nd minute the tying goal came after all. Sven Simons played a nice ball into Iggy Houben. Iggy rounded a Vitesse defender and shot hard into the far corner, 1-2. PSV had erased the poor start and this score still offered every opportunity for the second half.

From this corner came another good chance, but this time the ball was shot over. PSV then went ahead and Vitesse had to pull out all the stops to prevent the equalizer. PSV was by far the better team in the second half, but the various opportunities PSV created were not taken. Vitesse limited itself to defending in the second half and tried to score with a quick breakaway. However, it rarely became dangerous. Time started to run out for PSV, but the various chances turned out to be wasted on the home team. In the ^60th minute, Milan Govaers shot a free kick just wide after Shi-jon Martina was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. In the ^64th minute, Vitesse only had the first possible in the second half. However, the PSV goalie saved superbly. The game seemed to go out like a candle but in the ^70th minute the more than deserved equalizer came. A free kick by Milan Govaers was not well cleared by the Vitesse goalie, allowing Yaël Gil Y Muinos to tap in the equalizer, 2-2. PSV tried to take the win in injury time, but were unable to do so and both teams had to settle for a point.
