Wednesday we played a practice match against our peers from Feyenoord. Based on the first and second half, we should have won but it ended up 2-2. Today we played again for the league against Fortuna Sittard.
At 10:30 the referee whistled for the start of the match. We did not seem to be fully awake yet as we did not start well. As a result it soon became 1-0 for Fortuna Sittard. A deserved lead. Our passing was sloppy and we were not sharp in the duels. The last ten minutes of the first half our play improved. We had great chances for 1-1 but we were not cool in front of the goal. We had to do better in the second half.
At halftime we discussed our mediocre first half and agreed that we would put things right in the second half. Fortunately that happened. Genrich broke the spell with a beautiful lob, 1-1. Then it was Mohamed-Amine Ihattaren who cleverly played himself free in the sixteen and shot the ball in over the ground. 2-1. We started to play better football and also Heritier and Djurre managed to score after good combinations. At the back Nigel and Joost made sure that the striker of Fortuna did not get dangerous anymore and so we went to rest with a 4-1 lead.
In the third half we wanted to increase our lead. Heritier made sure we did after a good combination. 5-1. There was a lot of substituting but unfortunately no more scoring and so we won 5-1 today. We learned today that we have to be 100% sharp to win. We will have to be sharp next week when we play at home against FC Eindhoven o12.
