PSV young gun Dante Rigo has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with an option for a further season, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019. The 18-year-old Belgian midfielder signed his new contract in the pressroom of the Philips Stadion on Monday evening, accompanied by his family.
"A day to remember"
Dante, who has just turned 18, joined the PSV Academy in 2007 and is generally regarded as one of the most promising young players. He has risen through the junior ranks at PSV and was one of the most outstanding players of the U19 team that reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League in the first part of the current season. Rigo made his PSV U21 debut earlier this season and regularly trains with the first-team squad. “This is a day to remember”, said Rigo. “PSV are a great club. Everybody feels at home in Eindhoven. I feel confident I can develop as a player here. I have been offered a new contract, which shows that the club has confidence in me. It’s my aim to become a first-team member soon.”
First PSV contract
Rigo, born in Tremelo on 11 December 1998, joined the PSV Academy from Lierse SK. The midfielder drew world-wide attention at the World Cup 2015, when Belgium finished third, thanks to a goal scored by Rigo. The Belgian signed his first PSV contract in 2015. Rigo is regarded as one of the best young PSV talents. “I know expectations are high. I will work hard and wait for my chances.”
