Although PSV’s title hopes were ended last weekend, Phillip Cocu’s men are anxious to register a win over Ajax in the Phillips Stadion on Sunday afternoon. “It’s a big game that we are desperate to win. Even now we are no longer title contenders, we want to win this game. Prestige is always at stake when we face Ajax”, said Cocu at his weekly press briefing on Friday afternoon.
‘A win will help ease the pain’
PSV head coach Phillip Cocu emphasised that PSV want to entertain their loyal home fans. “The coaching staff and squad alike feel still disappointed but a win over Ajax will help ease the pain. And I think it’s about time PSV win a big game´, said Cocu, referring to the poor results against the big clubs earlier this season. Cocu told the media that next season is not on his mind yet.
“We are solely focused on the Ajax game. That’s the kind of game that you want to play as a professional player, in particular in our own stadium, with an electrifying atmosphere.” Ajax reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League after extra time and played the last 40 minutes with ten men. The Amsterdam outfit may start the feel the strain and exhaustion but Cocu was quick to play down that suggestion. “In my experience tiredness is never a big deal when you are successful.”
Willems doubtful, Hendrix ruled out
Jetro Willems is doubtful for Sunday’s clash, but Jorrit Hendrix and Remko Pasveer are ruled out with injuries.
