PSV U21 recorded their second victory of the season with a 2-1 win against FC Eindhoven in an Eindhoven derby on Friday night. Sam Lammers scored the opening goal in the Jan Louwers Stadion and Mauro Junior netted the winner for Dennis Haar’s team. PSV U21 have seven points from three games.
Lammers opens scoring with a peach of a goal
A 3, 356 crowd, including PSV’s General Manager Toon Gerbrands, was entertained to an entertaining first half which saw PSV U21 take the lead on 16 minutes. Sam Lammers, who joined PSV’s senior squad in summer, rounded his marker Loof on the edge of the penalty area before superbly curling the ball into the top corner: 0-1. Minutes before, FC Eindhoven had survived a scary moment when Loof, chesting down the ball, hit the outside of the post. PSV U21 could not take their chances and Lieder scored an equaliser in the 22nd minute when his long-range strike took a deflection before ending up in the net. HT: 1-1.
Malen makes debut, Mauro Junior scores winner
FC Eindhoven dominated large parts of the second part and Van der Boomen came close to giving them the lead. The midfielder stepped up to take a free kick following a foul committed by Armando Obispo but saw his effort go agonisingly past the post. PSV U21 had little to offer but it all changed when Donyell Malen came on as a substitute. The forward, who joined PSV from Arsenal, looked menacing, with his pace a constant threat. With three minutes remaining, fellow striker Mauro Junior was on hand to score the winning goal. FT: 1-2.
