20-year-old Hjörtur Hermannsson has signed a three-year contract extension with PSV. The Icelandic defender joined PSV in 2012 and developed into a Jong PSV regular during the past two seasons.
Hermannsson signed his first professional contract at the Philips Stadion when he was seventeen, after he had left his native country to join PSV from Fylkir Reykjavik. Hermannsson first played for PSV´s U-19 team and, under his coach Phillip Cocu, he won the Cup, beating Feyenoord 2-3 in the 2013 final. Later that year he won a Jupiler League period title with Jong PSV, who will go into the history books as the first ´Jong´ team to win such a reward.
Hermannsson vows to come back stronger
Hermannsson is currently recovering from a hip injury. He underwent surgery in March 2015. The Iceland U-21 international vows to come back stronger: “In spite of my injury, PSV put trust in me. I am proud to be wearing the PSV shirt the next few seasons and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of PSV. It’s my prime objective to get fit again, but I’ve already set targets for the next few years”, explained Hermannsson in fluent Dutch, after having put pen to paper on his new deal.
