PSV head coach Phillip Cocu expects to have almost all of his players available for selection on Saturday when his team plays host to Vitesse at the Philips Stadion at 19.45. “Some players will be disappointed to be left out when we take on fifth-placed Vitesse.”
Van Ginkel or De Jong?
Cocu will have to make a choice whether to hand a start to Marco van Ginkel or to Siem de Jong. De Jong put in two fine displays when he replaced Van Ginkel. The latter has returned to full fitness, and Cocu insists that this gives him a welcome selection problem. “We consider all our options ahead of each game. We assess the fitness of the players and the strength of our opponents and then select the est team.”
‘We still have everything to play for’
Cocu explained that he pays attention to the players that are not included in his starting XI. “We urge them to try and develop in training all week long. We feel convinced we still have everything to play for in the final eight matches of the current campaign. We will have to do it together, as a team.”’
Vitesse have reached the KNVB Beker final
As PSV and Vitesse lock horns at the Philips Stadion on Saturday evening, Phillip Cocu knows it will be a tough match. “'We must be wary of Vitesse’s skilful performers and creative players. They try and control the game by dominating possession and attempt to play attacking football. Vitesse have some quality players who have helped their team reach the KNVB Beker final, which says it all.”
Willems is doubtful
Jetro Willems is doubtful for Saturday’s clash after he trained separately away from the main group on Friday. He strained a hamstring in training earlier this week. “We will assess him tomorrow, when he faces a late fitness test.” Jorrit Hendrix, who withdrew from training on Wednesday, has returned to first team training and is fit to face Vitesse.
