Superleague Formula’s fourth season

Superleague Formula is an international car racing competition, capturing the passion of football with the thrill and excitement of motor racing. Leading teams from Europe and other continents battle at racetracks in the Superleague Formula championship’s third season. PSV have attached their name and brand to the PSV race team for the fourth year running. The championship gets underway at Dutch venue Assen on June 4/5.

The roster of clubs includes, among other clubs, RSC Anderlecht, Atlético Madrid, Girondins de Bordeaux and Sparta Prague, while a number of country-represented cars will also start races in the Superleague Formula.

Azerti Race Automotive from Belgium has set up the PSV race team. Yelmer Buurman will drive the PSV car in the international racing championship. The Dutchman also drove the PSV car in Superleague Formula’s inaugural season. Azerti is also in charge of the RSC Anderlecht team that won the 2010 Superleague Formula.

International racing championship

There are eight races on the Superleague Formula schedule in 2011, with races on four different continents, in Russia, Brazil, China, New Zealand and the Middle East. Superleague Formula will become the first major international single-seater championship to race in Russia. Brazil will be the venue for two separate race weekends, while the Superleague Formula returns to China in September for the second consecutive season. The Middle East and New Zealand will welcome the Superleague Formula for the first time ever, in November and December 2011, respectively.

All teams that compete in the Superleague Formula will use identical 750 horsepower V12powered cars and technologies, with an estimated top speed of 320 km/h. As all cars will be similar from a technical point of view, the emphasis will be placed on the team’s performance and each driver’s contribution, skill and ability. There will two races each weekend. On Saturday, there is a qualifying session, where the drivers split into two groups as per Friday’s draw. They will face a straight shoot-out to decide grid position for Sunday’s Race One. Sunday sees two races of 40 minutes each. Race One grid positions are decided on the result of Saturday qualifying, while Race Two sees a completely reversed grid of the finishing order of Race One, putting the fastest cars at the back to ensure excitement right throughout the day. The top eight points-scorers over the weekend then go forward to the Super Final which takes place almost immediately after Race Two. It is a five lap dash for cash. The winning driver receives the cheque for €100,000, the runner-up €50,000 and down to €10,000 for sixth place.
