Stevens: “We can hold our heads up high”

At the post-match press conference, PSV coach Huub Stevens claimed that the result would give confidence for the future. “I am obviously disappointed to have suffered defeat and to have been knocked out of the KNVB Cup. But we can hold our heads up high. We put in a fine, well-organised display.”

Any team will face a tall task against AZ in Alkmaar.” Jan Kromkamp was taken off with what looked a serious injury, but Stevens could not give an update yet. “We’ll just have to wait. A scan at hospital will provide clarity.”

Van Gaal: ‘A top clash’
His AZ colleague Louis van Gaal said that the two teams had been equal to each other. “This was a top clash. PSV performed well and they were well-organised. It could have gone either way, but we created the better chances tonight. That’s why I think we deserved to win.”
