PSV v Tottenham Hotspur goes into extra time as the visitors from London are 1-0 up after ninety minutes. Berbatov scored a goal nine minutes from time, overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

PSV did not make any changes to the team that earned a 1-0 victory at White Heart Lane last week. Koevermans was partnered by Farfán up front, while Lee, who was played at left back, made a return to the Philips Stadium. Afellay operated on the left flank in last week’s first leg at White Hart Lane, but he played as central midfielder in the return leg. The visitors earned the first chance of the game after fifteen minutes, but the Frenchman Steed Malbranque steered his effort wide. Sef Vergoossen’s team played a compact defence, while watching for opportunities to start lethal counter attacks. Ten minutes before the break, Salcido and Gomes did not communicate well and PSV survived a scare when the defender nodded past the keeper but also past the post. Neither team put in an inspiring first-half display. PSV defended well, but frequently lost possession and their passing lacked accuracy.

After the break Tottenham manager Ramos brought on striker Darren Bent for defender Young-Pyo Lee. Bent soon made his mark bringing out a fine save from Gomes. Farfán and Culina also had chances, but Koevermans earned a great opportunity to break the deadlock. He was on-side when he was put clear, but failed to beat Paul Robinson, when one-one-one with the Spurs goalkeeper. In the closing stages the game really warmed up. Lazovic left the bench after 73 minutes to replace Koevermans, but the goal was scored at the other end. With nine minutes remaining, right back Pascal Chimbonda crossed from the right and Dimitar Berbatov sent a fabulous one-time strike into the top corner, leaving Gomes with no chance. The score was 1-1 on aggregate, so the game at the Philips Stadium goes into extra time.
