PSV head coach Huub Stevens has the luxury of a full-strength squad to choose from for the Eredivisie game against FC Volendam. Bas Roorda is ruled out with a thumb injury, but PSV have no new injury or suspension worries ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Philips Stadium, kick off at 19:45 CET, when they play their third match in the space of eight days..

“Keep the ball down”

Stevens saw FC Volendam beat FC VVV 3-2 in a KNVB Cup on Wednesday night. “FC Volendam like to play attacking football, seeking to keep the ball down”, said Stevens at the weekly press briefing, ahead of the final training session for Saturday’s game. “We have no injury or suspension problems, which is a good thing, but it also means I am bound to disappoint some players. Jan Kromkamp, who made his comeback in Tuesday’s Cup tie with the PSV reserves, is feeling fine, but I will first announce the starting line-up to the players before informing the press, like always.” According to statistics, PSV have nothing to fear from FC Volendam. The Eindhoven outfit have never suffered defeat in any of their last five games, in which they scored 34 goals and kept five clean sheets.

AZ Cup tie

When Stevens was asked to comment on the KNVB Cup draw that saw PSV paired with AZ, the PSV head coach cracked a joke: “We are lucky because we now don’t have to send our scouts any more”, he joked. “We would obviously have preferred a less tough draw, but we can’t change it. Sometimes you have a lucky draw and sometimes you have a tough draw. It’s all in the game, but right now we focus on Saturday’s game with FC Volendam, when we play our third game in eight days’ time.” PSV face another hectic schedule next week when they travel to Anfield on Wednesday to face Liverpool and play host to De Graafschap on Saturday ahead of a World Cup qualifiers break.
