Lodeweges: ”It’s crucial we win every game at this stage"
Dwight Lodeweges held his weekly press briefing on Friday afternoon.
'Arrival of the flights at the airports'
Mike Zonneveld, who serves a suspension, and Stef Nijland and Funso Ojo, who are recovering from injuries, will miss Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 20:45. Lodeweges hoped that everybody would come through the international fixtures okay. He jokingly added that he will keep a close eye on the arrivals of the flights at Amsterdam and Brussels airports and hopes all players will return unscathed from the international break. “Several senior members of our squad have been away on international duty, so we could not prepare properly for tomorrow night’s game. It can’t be helped, though. I just hope we have a full-strength squad to work with when we complete preparations for the Sparta game during the Friday afternoon training session.”
“A crucial game”
Lodeweges also previewed Saturday’s clash at Sparta Rotterdam. “I hope we’ll do well after the Eredivisie has paused for two weeks. It’s crucial that we win every game at this stage of the season. We need all three points on Saturday night. But so do Sparta, who will continue their bid for Eredivisie survival.”
Lodeweges labelled Sparta Rotterdam ‘a nice team with some technically skilful players, including the midfielders Strootman and Slot, and some pacy forwards’. I don’t expect them to give us acres of space.” Sparta goalkeeper Cássio Ramos, on loan from PSV, is doubtful for tomorrow after the Brazilian picked up an injury at the Thursday training session.”
