Ibrahim Afellay ruled out of sc Heerenveen clash

28 november 2008 19:00
PSV coach Huub Stevens will be without Ibrahim Afellay for Saturday night’s clash at sc Heerenveen. The midfielder suffered a strained tendon in his ankle during the initial stages of PSV’s 2-1 defeat against Atlético Madrid. “He has fortunately not sustained a serious injury, but tomorrow night’s game comes too early for him”, said PSV’s head coach.

Huub Stevens held his weekly briefing at De Herdgang on Friday afternoon. Huub Stevens held his weekly briefing at De Herdgang on Friday afternoon.

Face a new challenge

Huub Stevens: “I don’t believe it will be hard to put the Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid behind us. We will face a new challenge when we take on sc Heerenveen on Saturday night and we will do our utmost to get a good result”, explained Stevens, who knows that sc Heerenveen’s season has been marked by highs and lows so far. “I just hope Heerenveen will be in the same form as last week, but actually I’m afraid they will aim to bounce back from their humiliating 6-0 thrashing at the hands of FC Twente.” Huub Stevens thinks his team lack mental fitness and resilience. “This squad needs to be really focused all the time in every single game. The coaching staff should see to it that PSV will be sharp and show fighting spirit tomorrow night.”
