Van Bommel: “It feels like coming home”

“I’m happy to return to the club and sign a contract here exactly seven years after I left PSV for Barcelona”, said Van Bommel. “I promised I would come back one day and I always keep my word. It feels like coming home. Driving into the town of Eindhoven this afternoon made my flesh creep.” Netherlands captain emphatically made it clear that he had not returned to PSV to just take things easy. “You are good or bad, whether you are 18 or 35. I believe I can still be of value to this team and help PSV win back the title after a number of years. It’s my ambition to write a new chapter in the club’s history. In Italy, they don’t look at whether you are young or old. You are good or bad and in Italy they still think I’m good.”

Brands: “Proud Van Bommel returns to PSV”

Technical director Marcel Brands stated he was very proud Van Bommel had opted to return to Eindhoven. “After having spent a number of years abroad, the captain of the national team returns home. This is a special moment in particular for the fans who have been waiting for his return for such a long time. Van Bommel told me only recently that he would leave Milan to rejoin PSV. We have agreed Mark will take up a coaching role with PSV when he hangs up his boots”, said Brands.
