Ruud van Nistelrooy joins Hamburger SV

33-year old Ruud van Nistelrooy has joined Hamburger SV on a one-and-a-half-year contract from Real Madrid, the German club confirmed on their website on Saturday. Van Nistelrooy had been linked with a move to the Bundesliga club for some time. He will wear the number 22 shirt at HSV, PSV´s next UEFA Europa League opponents.
Ruud van Nistelrooy said goodbye to all PSV fans in May 2005.
Goal scoring machine
Ruud van Nistelrooy spent three seasons with PSV (1998-2001), scoring 62 goals from 67 appearances. In the summer of 2001, the striker, who was born in Oss, moved to Manchester United where he scored 95 goals in 150 Premiership games. He played for Real Madrid the past three-and-a-half seasons, where he netted 46 goals in 68 league games. Van Nistelrooy is thrilled to have become a HSV player. “I’m very much looking forward to my visit to Hamburg on Monday”, he told the club’s website. “I had some great talks and my first impressions of HSV are very positive. HSV is a great club with a strong team and big ambitions. I have big ambitions, too.” PSV meet HSV in the Europa League knockout phase on 18 and 25 February.
