Rutten: “Feyenoord are deserving winners”

PSV head coach Fred Rutten.
Fred Rutten admitted after his team’s 0-3 KNVB Cup defeat against Feyenoord that PSV lacked sharpness in front of goal. “I think that Feyenoord are the deserving winners tonight. We improved after the break but are left to rue our lack of cutting edge up front”, said Rutten at the post-match conference. “It just was not our day.”
“Lacked sharpness in front of goal”
“It just was not our day. We could have scored with a lot more sharpness but we lacked sharpness in front of goal tonight”, admitted Rutten. “We started brightly but Feyenoord soon took control of the game. We attempted to make amends after the break but are left to rue our lack of cutting edge up front”, said Rutten.

Been: “PSV strongest team”
“We realised we would have to give our all to get a result in Eindhoven”, started Feyenoord coach Mario Been his post-match analysis. “We had opted to play a diamond midfield, with El Ahmadi operating as a holding midfielder and he put in a tremendous display. At half-time, we had taken a two-goal lead. We knew that PSV would surge forward in the second half, but we looked organised and sharp. We survived some scary moments but actually the best chance fell to Fer who was denied by Isaksson. We have recorded a morale-boosting win over PSV who are the strongest team in the country, I think. And we will face another good team at the Rotterdam Kuip in a few days. I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s clash with Ajax.”
