Phillip Cocu previews Excelsior v PSV

05 mei 2012 09:00
PSV head coach Phillip Cocu looked ahead to his side’s final game of the 2011/12 season at Excelsior on Sunday. Third-placed PSV are one point behind Feyenoord, so in order to qualify for the Champions League they will have to win their game and hope Feyenoord will not take all three points at sc Heerenveen. “Hopefully the results will go our way, but the outcome of the other matches is beyond our control”, said Cocu during his weekly press briefing at De Herdgang training facilities.

Cocu comments the final match day of the season

“I’ve never experienced such an odd scenario before. As head coach at PSV I have only one thing in mind, which is record a win over Excelsior. We must pull off a win, that’s for sure. The outcome of the other matches is beyond our control, so I don’t need to be informed of the scores elsewhere on Sunday. We want to win our own game and we’ll wait and see what happens in our competitors´ matches. We just hope sc Heerenveen will end the season on a high note; a win over Feyenoord would put the icing on the cake for them. Feyenoord have had a great season and the people in charge deserve a big compliment.”

“We must win our own game”

“Excelsior have everything to play for as they are keen to avoid relegation. They will do their utmost to get a good result. We can extend our winning streak to five games but we will find out later if our campaign has been successful. Anyway, we will have to make sure to bag the three points and just hope we will have qualified for the Champions League”, concluded Cocu. Kevin Strootman was absent from training on Friday but will join his team mates for the Saturday training session.
