Phillip Cocu was satisfied with the 1-3 win at Excelsior, but the PSV head coach was disappointed with his team’s third-place finish. “I’m pleased with our fifth win in a row”, said Cocu at the post-match conference. “But we finished the 2011/12 campaign only in third place.”

Cocu´s post-match reaction

“I’m pretty much satisfied with this afternoon’s game. Our game plan was to create chances by pushing an extra man in midfield”, explained Cocu. “We deservedly took an early lead. We could not keep up the momentum after the break and handed Excelsior a lifeline by conceding a soft penalty. News from the Heerenveen game gave us fresh hope and we soon restored a two-goal lead. We were never threatened today but unfortunately Feyenoord enjoyed a victory. Yet I must add they deserved their second place finish. We are satisfied we have been able to string together five wins in a row.”

Lammers post-match reaction

“To cut a long story short; we were heading into the game, anxious to take our last chance. We started brightly, but PSV took an early lead. We got one chance to level the score. If we had taken it, it could have been a different game. We made some attacking substitutions during half-time. PSV regularly concede goal in the first fifteen minutes of the second half, so we put pressure on their defence after the restart. We closed them down and managed to reduce the deficit. But PSV were the better side. All credit to them, they deserved their win”, concluded Lammers.
