On Monday afternoon Phillip Cocu was officially presented in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium as the latest signing of PSV. During a press-conference the player of the Dutch national team put pen to paper on a two-year deal with PSV.

Chairman Harry van Raaij was the first to speak. "Phillip was born in Eindhoven and, as is generally known, I am from the county Brabant myself. Sometimes it is suggested that people from Brabant are not reliable where it concerns appointments. But six years, when Phillip left for Barcelona, we made an appointment that he would speak to PSV first on a return to Holland. I must say I am delighted with the return of Phillip. He is not only a great football player, but he is also a great human being and gets along tremendously with his colleagues. I am delighted with the return of a prodigal son and it is fantastic for me to see that he will sign a contract today, so that he will rejoin the club that he left six years ago. I am quite sure that the flags of many PSV fans will be hanging out today, now that you are back", said Van Raaij.

Then PSV Guus Hiddink took over. "The chairman is delighted and I am delighted. I think it is great for the fans, but it is also great for the squad to have Cocu back here in Eindhoven, where he, as a player of his age, with due respect, will play a prominent role. Both his body and mind are in perfect shape. And he is not lacking in ambition; he has not come here to take things easy. I know him to well for that. I used to be a youth coach at De Graafschap and there he was, on a small training pitch. So we have known each other all these years and we can get along together very well. So I am delighted with his return, not just for myself, but especially for the sake of the team and the fans", concluded Hiddink.

Obviously the last speaker was Phillip Cocu himself. "Of course I am quite satisfied. Some time ago it was announced that I would be released by Barcelona after six fine seasons. Then it was time for me to assess a few things. I wanted to know where I would find a new challenge and it did not take me long to realize that PSV would play an important part in these plans. I attach great value to the fact that I have good feelings about this new deal. I am quite convinced I have made the right decision and I do hope that we will put up some great displays the next two campaigns", said Cocu.
