After a long time, an end was put to all uncertainties on Monday. Philip Cocu will wear the red/blue striped Barcelona shirt next season as well.

Philip Cocu, 32 years of age, has reached an agreement to a one-year extension of his current contract with the team of the newly-appointed coach Frank Rijkaard. "It has always been my ambition to stay at Barca", explained Cocu on the official club website. At the end of April Guus Hiddink intimated that Cocu would receive a cordial welcome at PSV, if he could not finalize negotiations with his club.

Cocu started his career at the Dutch premier League side AZ in Alkmaar in 1988. After two seasons at AZ and five seasons at Vitesse, the versatile, multi-functional player made a move to PSV in 1995. He had been in Eindhoven service for three seasons, when he succeeded in gaining a transfer to FC Barcelona. He will now start his sixth campaign at Barca. Cocu was called up 68 times for the Dutch national team, in which he scored six goals.
