Koevermans scored either side of half time, while Balázs Dzsudzsák, Ibrahim Afellay and Nordin Amrabat also netted goals to help PSV secure a thoroughly-deserved 5-1 victory over RKC Waalwijk at the Philips Stadium on Sunday afternoon. PSV certainly deserved their comprehensive victory over bottom-of-the-table club RKC Waalwijk in a match marked by one-way traffic most of the game and showers for the full 90 minutes.

Half-time score: 4-0

Fred Rutten makes three changes from the team that beat HSV on Thursday, bringing on Danny Koevermans and Nordin Amrabat for Danko Lazovic and Otman Bakkal, while André Ooijer also returned to the PSV starting line-up to replace the injured Stanislav Manolev. Bakkal and Lazovic were not quite match fit and were rested. PSV stormed into a 3-0 lead in no time. The hosts made a flying start as they set the pace and the fans made themselves heard after six minutes when they made the early breakthrough. RKC defender Mosselveld was booked by referee Wegereef for a push in the box. Dzsudzsák duly converted the resulting penalty to put PSV 1-0 ahead, scoring his ninth league goal of the season. PSV extended their advantage in the 19th minute. Afellay scored after a strong run down the left flank. He cut into the box and unleashed a powerful shot that beat keeper Levita at the far post. Koevermans, who was recalled to the starting line-up at the expense of Lazovic, virtually wrapped up the game three minutes later. Amrabat fed the striker to slide home from close range: 3-0. Amrabat himself also got his name on the score sheet. The agile forward drifted past his marker in the 40th minute and coolly slotted home past the outstretched keeper Levita.

Two goals Koevermans

Fred Rutten made two changes at half-time, bringing on Simons for Engelaar and 16-year-old Labyad for Dzsudzsák. PSV were clearly in the driving seat but could not keep up a high tempo in the match. Benschot scored a consolation for the visitors in the 63rd minute with a powerfully struck 25-yard free-kick that curled around the wall: 4-1. Koevermans restored the home side’s four-goal advantage five minutes later, also taking his goal scoring tally to the season to nine. Amrabat delivered the cross and Koevermans rose above Colin to head home at the far post: 5-1. With eleven minutes remaining, Marcellis left the bench to replace Maza as PSV ended another hectic week, with three home games, on a high. PSV maintained their one-point lead over rivals FC Twente at the top of the Eredivisie, after second placed FC Twente registered a late 2-1 at home to N.E.C. PSV will be next in domestic league action after the international break. They travel to Breda on Saturday to face NAC.

Zakaria Labyad came on as a substitute in the 46th minute. Zakaria Labyad came on as a substitute in the 46th minute.
