PSV should have Ibrahim Afellay available

Fred Rutten held a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

‘Takes each day as it comes’

Rutten told the media at his press briefing that he will keep a close eye on Orlando Engelaar. “He sustained an injury and will miss Wednesday night’s cup game. We will take each day as it comes and see if is he fit enough for Saturday’s home match against Willem II. Ibrahim Afellay, who missed the past two games against Sparta Prague and Feyenoord, has returned to full fitness. Nordin Amrabat is still in the process of making a full recovery and trained separately from the group on Tuesday. He may be called up to Saturday’s match squad”. André Ooijer will be fit for the cup tie with De Graafschap and Fred Rutten may also call up Jagos Vukovic, who played the full 90 minutes in Young PSV’s 0-0 draw with MVV.

Jan Kromkamp

Jan Kromkamp is not likely to stage a comeback soon. “He has been troubled by a knee problem for some time and will undergo surgery”, explained Rutten. “Kromkamp has seen another doctor for a second opinion, who confirmed the initial diagnosis of PSV’s medical staff. I won’t reveal details but it’s not a major knee problem.”

Ibrahim Afellay is available again for PSV on Wednesday night.

“Hungry for success”

Rutten is looking forward to the start of the cup campaign but is wary of the threat posed by First Division side De Graafschap. “We know that stunning victories are part and parcel of cup football. De Graafschap came a long way last season and handed FC Twente a tough test. PSV should be hungry for success, at all competitions. At PSV, we will never get bored of winning games.”
