PSV maintained their lead at the top of the Eredivisie with an easy 2-0 win over ADO Den Haag, putting pressure on nearest rivals FC Twente who will lock horns with Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday afternoon. Maza and Ola Toivonen struck a goal each at the Philips Stadium for PSV to win the game comfortably. When the visitors were two goals down, they subsided and Fred Rutten’s team fully deserved their three points.

Ajax v FC Twente
PSV met expectations as they claimed their second win of the season over ADO Den Haag. Following the 2-0 victory, they increased the pressure on second-placed FC Twente who will take on Ajax in Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon. PSV did not put in particularity entertaining display, but the 33,000 home fans were happy with PSV´s second win in a row at the Philips Stadium.
Maza opened scoring account for PSV
Engelaar and Pieters returned to the starting line-up as PSV got their third league game in one week under way. As expected, ADO Den Haag played a compact defence, looking to catch the home side on the counter attack. PSV patiently passed the ball around in a one-sided game trying to find a hole in the 5-man ADO Den Haag defence. After a quiet opening spell, PSV exerted some pressure at the Philips Stadium and were duly rewarded with the opening goal. Fifteen minutes were on the clock when defender Maza escaped his marker and rose high to head home Balázs Dzsudzsak´s inswinging corner: 1-0. It was the Mexican’s first goal of the season for PSV. ADO, who had slipped to a mid-week defeat against FC Groningen, never impressed and PSV thought they had taken a two-goal lead after 24 minutes. Bakkal, however, had his goal disallowed for offside and the midfielder sent two efforts wide in the latter stages of the first half.
Toivonen, pictured here lying on the ground, doubled PSV´s lead on the hour mark.
Toivonen took his goal tally for the season to twelve
The second half was a low tempo affair, with PSV continuing to dominate proceedings. They eventually got their two-goal lead on the hour mark. Engelaar played Toivonen through with a subtle through ball and one-on-one with keeper Zwinkels, the Swedish striker had his shot blocked by the ADO Den Haag goalkeeper but struck from the rebound, taking his goal tally for the season to twelve: 2-0. As the game sparked into life, Toivonen and Lazovic had chances to score a third goal. Koevermans and Vukovic came on for Engelaar and Pieters and Fred Rutten brought on Funso Ojo for Afellay with three minutes remaining. PSV will have seven days to prepare their next league game, away against Heracles Almelo on Sunday 14 February
