PSV reach UEL after 9-0 demolition of FK Zeta
First half: a one-sided affair
PSV, who handed a start to debutant Peter van Ooijen and goalkeeper Boy Waterman, put pressure on the FK Zeta defence from the first whistle. Derijck had a chance to open the scoring in the very first minute, but it was Zanka who made the breakthrough four minutes later, scoring his first goal in a PSV shirt. A corner was taken quickly and the Dane, left completely unmarked, headed home Willems´ first-time cross: 1-0. Van Ooijen extended PSV´s lead in the 11th minute with a wonderful curling strike that hit the underside of the bar before it crossed the line, leaving goalkeeper Bulatovic with no chance. Matavz, who scored twice from close range, and Wijnaldum, with a headed goal, helped Dick Advocaat’s team to a 5-0 lead at half-time.
Matavz and Wijnaldum both struck hat-tricks
PSV made one half-time change, introducing Ritzmaier for Willems. Depay had the first chance after the break but sent his effort wide, while at the other end Korac had a shot on goal. Engelaar put Depay clean through with a through pass in the 63rd minute and Matavz completed a hat-trick, sliding the ball home: 6-0. Wijnaldum met Depay´s inviting cross from the left with a flick into the far corner only three minutes later: 7-0. Peter van Ooijen struck again in the 74th minute with a wonderful long-range shot and Wijnaldum also hit a hat-trick, netting the ninth goal. PSV attempted to record a double digit win, but Matavz, Wijnaldum and Narsingh failed to find the back of the net in the closing stages. The draw for the UEFA Europa League group stage takes place in Monaco on Friday afternoon at 13.00. PSV will meet more formidable opposition next Sunday when they play host to AZ. Kick-off at the Philips Stadion is at 14.30.
