PSV part company with Jonathan Reis
Professional help
Jonathan Reis returned five days late from his holiday in Brazil at the mid-winter training camp in Valencia. Reis was extremely tired and physically worn out on arrival in the Spanish town and was sent to hospital in Eindhoven for a medical examination, which revealed Reis had been taking banned substances. The club offered Jonathan Reis professional help. As Reis has refused to accept help of any kind and also refused to be admitted to a drug abuse treatment clinic, PSV decided to part company with the player with immediate effect.
Jan Reker’s reaction
PSV´s General Manager Jan Reker explains why the club has taken this inevitable decision. “This is a tough but inevitable decision. We have discussed the situation of Jonathan Reis at great length and we came to the conclusion that PSV has no other choice. The club and head coach Fred Rutten in particular have done their very best to help Reis, but all to no avail.”
Renato Moura´s reaction
“I must admit I am very disappointed and sad that such a gifted player of one of the best clubs in the world, should be throwing his career away”, said Renato Moura, FIFA agent and agent of Jonathan Reis, in a statement. “It is incredible that Jonathan, who has received so much help from the club, should give up his football career so light-heartedly. This is a nightmare for everyone. PSV and I have done our utmost to help him, so it’s extremely sad to see that he has refused our help.”
