PSV were knocked out of the KNVB Cup after losing 0-3 to Feyenoord on Wednesday night, their first defeat since March 2009. El Ahmadi scored a double and Van Bronkhorst added a third goal to send Feyenoord through to the semi-finals. PSV were the better team and created plenty of goal scoring opportunities but were taught a lesson in efficiency by the Rotterdam outfit.

First goal conceded at home since September

Amrabat replaced the suspended Dzsudzsák, as PSV had the first chance after five minutes. Amrabat sent an effort straight at goalkeeper Van Dijk. Despite having the lion's share of the possession and most of the chances, the home side were unable to find the back of the net and they were punished when El Ahmadi broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. Maza slipped and Ooijer could not prevent El Ahmadi from slotting home the opening goal: 0-1. It was the first goal that PSV conceded at home since the end of September. PSV went in search of an equaliser and Amrabat came close to levelling the score after Afellay had put him through, but it was Feyenoord that doubled their lead after 34 minutes. Van Bronckhorst unleashed a shot from distance that sailed into the top corner of the net to give Feyenoord a two-goal advantage: 0-2. PSV tried to pull a goal back before the break but former PSV keeper Van Dijk produced a fine save to deny Toivonen.

PSV

First defeat since 15 March 2009

PSV immediately set about putting their opponents under pressure after the interval. Afellay had a shot on goal. Fred Rutten’s team continued to probe and had chances to reduce the deficit but Van Dijk held firm in the Feyenoord goal. The visitors defended deeply and tried to hit PSV on the counter attack, while PSV could not find a way past their former goalkeeper. Pieters came on for Salcido and Engelaar replaced Koevermans as Feyenoord, ending PSV´s unbeaten run of forty games, held on for a win that sent them through to the final four. PSV fell to their first defeat of the season. They last slipped to defeat on 15 March 2009, when they were beaten, again, by Feyenoord. Fred Rutten lost his first game in charge as PSV head coach. To make matters worse, El Ahmadi made it 0-3 in injury-time. Feyenoord have reached the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup, while PSV will focus on the domestic league and the UEFA Europa League. They will be next in action on Sunday when they face Vitesse in Arnhem.
