PSV beat Real Murcia 1-0 in Spanish warm-up

PSV claimed a 1-0 win over Real Murcia in their first friendly in Spain on Tuesday night. Georginio Wijnaldum scored the only goal of the game after six minutes in La Manga, where PSV are at a training camp. Head coach Fred Rutten made nine substitutions. Kevin Strootman was taken off after he had sustained an injury.

Fine goal by Wijnaldum

Lens partnered Labyad in attack and Tyton was PSV´s man between the sticks as they faced Segunda División club Real Murcia in a friendly match in La Manga on Tuesday night. PSV opened the scoring after six minutes through Georginio Wijnaldum, who unleashed a fine long-range shot into the top corner, leaving keeper Javi Jimenez with no chance. Marcelo sent a header from an inswinging corner just inches wide of the post. Kevin Strootman picked up an injury in the 11th minute and was replaced by Atiba Hutchinson. Fred Rutten made one half-time change, bringing on Dries Mertens for Zakaria Labyad. PSV pressed on after the break and had two chances to double their lead when Jeremain Lens hit the post and Tim Matavz rattled the woodwork with a header. Other substitutes followed throughout the second half. Derijck, Wuytens and Vennegoor came on for Bouma, Willems and Matavz in the 59thminute, while Najah and Ritzmaier replaced Hutchinson, who put in a fine display, making the start he had craved since his return from injury, and Toivonen after 75 minutes. Marzo and Depay came off the bench with five minutes remaining to replace Manolev and Lens, so that only Wijnaldum, Tyton and Marcelo played the full 90 minutes.

Rutten: “Useful workout”

It was a useful workout for nineteen players, including the youth players Depay, Najah and Marzo. “The main thing is that the lads got a run out”, said Rutten after the game in La Manga. Two training sessions are scheduled on Wednesday. PSV will meet 1. FC Kaiserslautern in a friendly match on Friday.

Murcia’s No 10, Galder Carrejeria Lopez, has conceded a free-kick.
