PSV head coach Fred Rutten looked ahead to his side’s first home game of 2012 against Vitesse on Friday, kicking off at 20.00. Rutten does not expect Vitesse will just show natural inclinations to play attack football in Eindhoven. “The main thing is to get three points at home. Vitesse will be looking to catch us on the counter attack.”
Jonathan Reis
The main topic raised at Thursday afternoon’s press briefing was the return of Jonathan Reis to the Philips Stadion. “I realise very well that it’s a media-driven hype. Jonathan Reis is not unsurprisingly the talk of the town, as he is a talented player with a history here. But we must take a professional approach. He will be wearing a Vitesse shirt and we will try to deal with him as with any other player. I know his personality includes willpower and a strong character, so his return to action does not come as a major surprise. Yet it is a medical miracle that he’s back so soon. I have a special bond with him over the game of football but that will have no bearing on tomorrow night’s game”, said Rutten at his weekly press briefing on Thursday afternoon.

“Most team defend deeply”
“The main thing is to get three points at home tomorrow night. We’ve watched Vitesse a number of times and we think they will be looking to catch us on the counter attack. I vividly remember their game at FC Twente. They crossed the midline about once and yet they held their opponents to a goalless draw. Most teams defend deep when we play host to them at the Philips Stadion and Vitesse will be no exception.”

Engelaar, Tamata and Pieters
PSV will be without Engelaar, Tamata and Pieters, although the latter is recovering well from injury. “Erik Pieters has returned to training at De Herdgang training facilities and things look brighter for him. It was a huge relief for him he has started ball work again. Wuytens and Hutchinson are getting fitter every day”, concluded Rutten.
