‘Keen to record a win’

PSV head coach Fred Rutten put his troops through their paces at De Herdgang training centre, like he always does ahead of a league game. “We’re thoroughly prepared for Sunday’s game. We no longer dwell on last week’s defeat, the first one of the season after an unbeaten run of 32 matches, but must bounce back straightaway in a big game. Taking on Ajax, we don’t need to motivate the players. I know we slipped to defeat against NAC Breda, but refuse to hit the panic button. We dominated the game for the full 90 minutes, but in the end two defensive mistakes cost us dearly”, said Rutten at the press briefing at De Herdgang.

‘We want to claim three points’

Fred Rutten expects Ajax will play their hearts out. “They will go at us from the first whistle and it’s up to us to find a way to cope. The match against Ajax in Eindhoven was played with intensity and high-tempo, but also with many mistakes. We must reduce the number of mistakes if we want to claim our three points. We will go to Amsterdam full of confidence and belief”, said the PSV head coach. PSV saw the gap with Ajax reduced to four points but Rutten refuses to hit the panic button. “We’ve dropped some points lately but we won’t change our style of play. We’re top fit - physically and mentally. We still create plenty of chances and will continue to play attacking football as we don’t believe in the catenaccio system.” Andy van der Meyde will not be called up into Sunday’s match squad. Zakaria Labyad missed PSV´s training on Friday, but looks set to make the trip to Amsterdam. Kick-off time on Sunday: 16.30.
