PSV defender Ernest Faber has decided to retire from professional football. Thirty-two-year old Faber has been wearing the red-white striped PSV shirt for twelve seasons, but this season in particular he was struck by a great deal of injury woe.
Doctors told Ernest Faber that he was not able to continue his active career. The tough man-marker, who underwent Achilles tendon surgery last year, is now waiting for an official statement of rejection on medical grounds.
In those twelve campaigns he played with the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Romario, Luc Nilis and Ronaldo. He considers having won the Dutch title four times with PSV as the highlights in his long career with the Eindhoven club. He is not quite sure what he is going to do next season. ?I would love to stay at PSV. We have been brainstorming a few times on my future, but I have never properly made up my mind on that issue yet. Now that I have been declared unfit to play professional football, it is time to consider my future. So far I have not received any concrete offers?, explained Ernest Faber.
Ernest Faber played 175 league games and scored six goals. He has one cap to his name: in America on 24 February 1998 he was given a place in the starting line-up of the Dutch team that beat Mexico 3-2.
