Donington circuit stages opening round of Superleague Formula

Football and motorsport fans can now purchase tickets for the opening round of the inaugural Superleague Formula championship at Britain’s Donington Park circuit. The two-day event will be staged on August 30/31. The Zolder circuit, located at only 60km from Eindhoven, will be staging Round Three of the inaugural Superleague Formula championship on October 4-5.

First season: six races
There will be six races in the first season, all of them at the top circuits in Europe. The idea is to expand to seventeen races in future years in other continents as well. All teams that compete in the Superleague Formula will use identical cars and technologies, including a V12-engine. The racing cars will be able to hold their own with the best racing cars from the Formula I and ChampCar World Series, as far as speed and performance are concerned. Wim Coekelbergs, manager of Azerti Race Automotive, is set to form the PSV racing team. Alongside PSV, AC Milan, RSC Anderlecht, Borussia Dortmund, Corinthians, FC Basel, Flamengo, Galatasaray SK, Sevilla FC, FC Porto, Olympiakos, Olympique Lyon and clubs from Mexico, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have all signed contracts to take part in the competition.
