18-year-old forward Memphis Depay, who has frequently trained with the first team as a trainee this season, has been promoted to PSV´s first-team squad after impressing interim manager Phillip Cocu. “This is the next step in his career progression”, said Phillip Cocu on Easter Monday.

Two goals in three league games
Depay was told he is now a regular first-team squad member one day after he replaced Dries Mertens in the Dutch Cup final after 85 minutes. As a substitute, the forward scored two goals in three league appearances, against NAC Breda and VVV-Venlo. He was also on target twice during PSV´s Dutch Cup campaign. “He has made huge progress after he had shaken off a knee problem. This is the next step in his career progression”, said head coach Phillip Cocu. “He received some good news today. This is an acknowledgment of his ability. He is just one of the lads now, but he realises he will have to keep on working hard”, said Cocu at De Herdgang training facilities.
