PSV parted company with driver Dominick Muermans, who did not meet expectations in the first three races of the competition. “We must be realistic about this season’s achievements. The results in the first three races were below par, as far as we are concerned. PSV finished second in last year’s inaugural championship. We have now appointed Carlo van Dam who has gained more experience”, said director Marcel van den Bunder, who extended a hearty welcome to the new driver at the Philips Stadium on Thursday morning.

Spectacular racing class
Van Dam (born in Vlaardingen on 27 February 1986) took up driving at the age of eight and spent a large part of his life on the kart track near Eindhoven Airport. He recently took part in Formula 3 championship races in Germany and Japan. “It won’t be easy to take over in the middle of the season, but this is a spectacular racing class and the PSV racing team boasts a solid organisation. I want to get results the next few races and climb a few places in the general standings. We’ll go for it”, said Van Dam, who was handed the No 5 shirt.

Former Formula 1 drivers
There has been another SF transfer. Former Formula 1 driver Sebastien Bourdais, an experienced driver and owner of one of motor sport’s most impressive CVs, is ready to accept a new challenge and will be racing for Spanish club FC Sevilla, starting on Sunday. There are now as many as four ex-Formula 1 drivers who compete in the Superleague Formula by Sonangol. “I hope to score a podium result. I’m looking forward to the challenge in Portugal”, concluded Van Dam.
