Advocaat: “We killed off the game after the break”
PSV head coach Dick Advocaat reviewed the game at the post-match conference.
Advocaat’s reaction
PSV´s head coach thought his side lacked tactical discipline when AZ had been reduced to ten man. “We were sloppy in possession and AZ comfortably held out”, said Advocaat at the post-match conference. “We made some tactical changes at half-time. When Van Bommel had restored the lead, we scored four fine goals and recorded a 5-1 win”, said Advocaat.
Verbeek´s reaction
AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek was obviously unhappy with the heavy 5-1 defeat. “We were down to ten men after just eight minutes. After Reijnen had been sent off, we were vulnerable in defence for a few minutes. Yet we were defensively well-organised again soon and started some fine counter attacks”, said Verbeek, who added that his side could not keep up the pace after the break. “We had been forced to dig deep in the second half and had not fully recovered yet when the second half got under way. A second PSV goal was inevitable and from then on we lacked spirit and strength of character”, concluded Verbeek.
